We open the Birgitta Festival 2023 with the premiere of the comic opera "Crisis". Authors Timo Steiner and Andri Luup let the full-blown star lead us into the world of tiny ego crises. They are familiar to all of us... However, how it becomes generalized in the tone of Italian opera bufa will take place in front of our eyes and ears through friendly comedy and a good-natured fnale...

The composer of the chamber opera "Clemency", Sir James MacMillan, was knighted by the Duke of Cambridge in 2015 at Windsor Castle for his contributions to the world of music. The work to be performed at Theatrum addresses the theme of revenge and mercy, and the opera will be conducted by the author himself.

Last season, during the 152nd year of activity of the Vanemuine Theatre, Richard Wagner's opera was presented to the Tartu audience for the frst time. We too are commemorating it at Pirita. Allow time and peace for the journey to follow the love story of the fairy-tale Irish princess Isolde and knight Tristan.

On the occasion of Riho Sibul's 65th birthday, Ultima Thule will give a concert to co-travellers and for co-travellers - "Fly Free". One of the best Ultima Thule and Riho Sibul concerts took place within the walls of the Pirita Monastery. We remember.

We conclude this year's festival with Beethoven's 9th Symphony, hoping that there will be increasingly more reasons to present the "Ode to Joy" in the future.

Therefore, a suitable title for this year's Birgitta Festival would be "From Crisis to Joy".
